Altera offers a broad portfolio of intellectual property (IP) cores, some specific to the automotive marketplace like the control area network (CAN) or media-oriented system transport (MOST), while others are general functions such as FireWire, color space converter (CSC), and fast Fourier transform (FFT). This portfolio of IP cores allows you to design a central car gateway or a next-generation navigation system, and are available either directly from Altera or from third-party IP partners. Several IP partners offer cores, including TES (graphics), Altia (human machine interface tools), and Vector (open source, automotive RTOS). All IP cores are thoroughly tested and optimized for Altera® products.
In addition to individual IP cores and free library of parameterized modules (LPM) functions, Altera also offers IP library suites such as the video and image processing suite. Many of the IP cores are utilized in the various automotive reference designs.
IP categories (including but not limited to) and examples of:
- Embedded processors—Nios® II 32-bit RISC soft processor, ARM® M1 Cortex 32-bit soft processor, 8051
- Interfaces—I2C, UART, CAN, USB, PCI, Ethernet, memory controllers
- DSP—multiply, divide, finite impulse response (FIR) filter, forward error correction (FEC), floating point, video and image processing IP suite, audio
- Communications—8B/10B, cyclical redundancy check (CRC)
- Other—security and encryption (AES, triple DES)
