Altera offers best-in-class transceiver technology to reduce design risk, shorten time-to-market, and improve productivity when implementing serial protocols. Customers implementing standard or proprietary protocols, chip-to-chip, backplane, or optical interfaces will find just the right solution within Altera's robust transceiver-based device offering that includes Stratix® IV GX, Stratix II GX, and Arria® GX FPGAs, and HardCopy® IV GX ASICs.
Stratix IV GX FPGAs and HardCopy IV GX ASICs
Stratix IV GX FPGAs provide unprecedented system bandwidth with up to 32 low-power transceivers supporting data rates up to 8.5 Gbps, and up to 16 additional transceivers supporting data rates up to 3.2 Gbps. HardCopy IV GX ASICs have up to 24 transceivers supporting data rates to 6.5+ Gbps, and up to an additional 12 transceivers supporting data rates to 3.2 Gbps. Dedicated circuitry is included to support protocols such as x1/x4/x8 Gen1 and Gen2 PCI Express, SONET, XAUI/HiGig/SPAUI, the Serial RapidIO® standard, Gigabit Ethernet, CEI-6G, CPRI, OBSAI, Fibre Channel, Interlaken, SFI-5, HyperTransportTM technology, and serial digital interface (SDI). Hard intellectual property (IP) blocks implement PHY-MAC, data link, and transaction layer functionality to provide a complete PCI Express protocol solution. All transceivers have flexible equalization and pre-emphasis to optimize signal integrity for chip-to-chip and backplane applications.
Stratix II GX FPGAs
Stratix II GX FPGAs have up to 20 low-power transceivers that support many standard and proprietary serial protocols up to 6.375 Gbps. The protocols supported by Stratix II GX FPGAs include x1/x4/x8 Gen1 and Gen2 PCI Express, SONET, XAUI, the Serial RapidIO standard, Gigabit Ethernet, CEI-6G, Fibre Channel, Interlaken, and SDI. In addition, the transceivers have flexible equalization and pre-emphasis that can be set dynamically to adjust for channel characteristics and improve signal integrity in backplane applications.
Arria GX FPGAs
Arria GX FPGAs have up to 12 low-power transceivers that support mainstream protocols up to 3.125 Gbps. Arria GX FPGAs support x1/x4 PCI Express, Gigabit Ethernet, Serial RapidIO, XAUI, SDI, CPRI, OBSAI, Serial Lite II, and proprietary protocols with Basic mode. The low-cost Arria GX FPGAs have the same robust transceiver technology as Stratix II GX FPGAs.
